My Strawberry fruit Jell-O mold!

I have been wanting to do some retro fun with Jell-O. I have been reading some recipes for some fun, strange, and very weird Jell-O recipes. I have never made any Jell-O molds before so I figured I would start out simple.

Directions:

1 large package Strawberry Jell-O gelatin
Vintage Jell-O Tupperware mold
1 Carton of fresh Strawberries
Redi-whip or cool whip for topping



Use a medium size Pyrex bowl to mix gelatin in. =)
In Pyrex bowl, pour in gelatin mix, boil 2 cups of cold water in pot.
When the water starts to boil pour into Pyrex bowl and stir the gelatin mix for 2 minutes.
When the 2 minutes is up, add 2 cups of cold water to mix. Stir until mixed.

Let gelatin mix cool for a couple of minutes.

Layer the bottom of the Jell-O mold with fresh strawberries, cut them in four's or however you like.

When Jell-O mix is cool to touch, spoon in the mix to the mold with the strawberries.

Put in refrigerator for 4 hours.

Top with whipped cream.


*Mine is in the refrigerator until 5pm. I will update when the Jell-O is ready!

My weekend vintage finds!

I had a lovely day this past Saturday. My mom and I went to the famous Stormville flea market, but it was a yard sale and this was my first time going to the "yard sale" one for Stormville, I usually go to the normal flea market. This was a nice huge yard sale, over 300 people!

I found some interesting things at the yard sale.


My love for vintage cook books! I found 2 awesome cookbooks and 1 pamphlet for a GE Refrigerator
 and at the end of the pamphlet it has recipes! SCORE!
Everything from this one person was for $1!!! These are the only cookbooks that looked interesting...thankfully I found these because there was a women looking for cookbooks about 5 minutes after I started to look, so lucky me =)
Don't you hate when there is competition?! I feel like I have to hurry and find everything that I want because at times I was a minute too late and someone else had it in their hands.

Never have seen this cook book before, Chiquita banana cookbook?! Love the colors and graphics, although I am not a huge fan of bananas my husband loves them so I will try these recipes for him!

Banana Gelatin's? Might have to try this!!

1950's GE Electric refrigerator! Probably the new thing of having the big freezer in the refrigerator and not having a huge freezer in the garage! 

How to use Redi-cube ice trays!

I grew up on these!!! My grandmother still has them, a few actually and I love them!

I did buy some on ebay but mine never come out like that because on the bottom of the aluminium they are dented, will have to find some more that aren't and try this out!

Another passion of mine, vintage tablecloth's!! I found this one at another person's table...no stains, rips, tears..in perfect condition! It was only $6! I couldn't argue with that.

This is a 1960's purse made by Meyers.

I spotted it at this womens table, she is an antique dealer and had a lot of vintage jewelry which I bought from her.

She also had vintage purse's and I spotted this right before me. It is so unique looking and so pretty!

It was only $5! 

I love it, it is a great summer bag. In mint condition!

I found this same bag on ebay for $65!

I also like I said above, bought some nice pieces of Jewelry from her.  Yet another passion of mine is vintage jewelry...And all of her vintage pieces were $2 each! Can't beat that!

This is a beautiful mustard yellow 1950's three strand lucite necklace. It has specks of glitter in the beads and is so beautiful! No name. Maybe W. Germany?

This is a 1950's faux pearl bracelet with aurora borealis beads...this bracelet is made very well. Love it!

No name on it.

This is an awesome 1960's piece. Amber with amber aurora borealis beads. Beautifully made, also no name.

And that was all that I found at the yard sale, not a whole lot but a nice bunch of stuff to bring home!

Stressful day but there is always tomorrow

Today I was stressed and was being very emotional. Thankfully I had my husband to talk to and vent out too and he is always there for me, I am a very lucky girl! I was contemplating on going out tomorrow, money is a little tight this week but sometimes you don't have to spend a lot to make yourself feel good, just being out in the fresh air makes it all better. Tomorrow (saturday) is the Stormville yard sale in upstate NY. I have never been to their yard sale before but have been to their flea market once.
Tomorrow is suppose to be a beautiful sunny day in NY and figured a little fresh air will brighten my day. So I believe I will be going out for the day and enjoying life and enjoying what little vintage treasures I can bring home with me....this yard sale is suppose to be BIG they said 400 people selling their things!

Some of the finds along the way....

I found these beauties that I have been trying to find in an antique store in CT.

They are possibly by Hazel Atlas, no markings though. It is the same pattern as the Blue Heaven set that I have by Royal china.

These are a set of 8 in their original holding rack!

These I found in a thrift store...they are Raffiaware. Plastic with a tiki look to them. So cute for the summer! Need to get a whole set now! Wonderful for BBQ'S.

I also found these Royal China Blue heaven casserole and mixing bowl.

I love this pattern so atomic looking! 

I am in the mood for J-E-L-L-O!

It is summer time now, and I am always in the mood for some fruit jello! Cherry, Strawberry, Orange, Lime! OoOh so yummy! And I have never made a Jello Mold. I bought two molds from the thrift in mint condition and am so ready to use them! I have always made just regular jello from the box recipe but that's it and sometimes would add cool whip on top!

But there are so many recipes out there, I see ads with recipes for Jello, I also see this awesome website that I go to, where I got the idea to try out vintage recipes, she just tries out the freakiest ones which I give her credit for but I would like to try out all vintage recipes not just the weird ones...her site is www.midcenturymenu.com, You should check it out, its pretty cool!


Anyway, she has some weird recipes that are jello but they are weird but some she said the verdict was good! I will need to try them! But here are some ads I found with recipes attached and will need to try them...I am going to be brave because some look gross! But hey it's vintage so I am ready to try these =)

Animal cracker Jello- "Jell-O Kindergarten Carousel"

-1 package Jell-O (any red flavor)

-1 Cup hot water

-1 Cup cold water

-Animal crackers or vanilla waffers

-Stripped candy sticks

-Whipped cream

Directions:

Dissolve Jell-O in hot water. Add cold water. Pour into dessert glasses and chill until almost firm.

Arrange crackers around edge of dessert glass so they show, chill until firm. Center each serving with candy stick and trim with a swirl of whipped cream. Makes 4 servings.

Vintage recipes to try out

Well, I have a good idea, I have such a nice collection of vintage cookbooks, and although I have tried out a few recipes from them I have not tried out many....and I would like to start too.
I am adding a new feature to my site, besides telling you guys about my vintage finds, I would also like to share with you some vintage recipes that I will try out, some that may be crazy, some that may be delicious! I would also like for you to participate and share your recipe's with me, if you find them in a vintage magazine take a picture of the recipe/picture and email it to me! I will try it out for you and post the detailed images and the verdict at the end.

I think it is a fun idea...I will be making some Jello molds over the weekend, I just got a vintage jello book that I will share with you today...some seem nice and some seem weird! But you won't know till you try!
