Holiday shopping, ALMOST done.

My husband and I went to an antique center and we were buying gifts for each other but we couldn't see what we were getting each other, all I know is my husband bought a whole load of Pyrex for me! I said wheres all the Pyrex in the store, Joe you took all of it!!! =) Very good for me though!

Today I am going to another antique center in NJ to just finish up my Christmas shopping....
then it is relax time for me until Christmas Eve =/ then the cooking begins!

How is everyone's holiday shopping going? did anyone get early Christmas presents?

Update- All done with display! Need your opinion.

Well, that was not that bad....kinda quick.

I am going to play with it more within a few days, because if I come home with more Pyrex on Friday it might have to be displayed on my kitchen cabinets.

I must say...it does look good and give a huge POP to my kitchen. I love my kitchen besides the fact, because the cabinets are from the 1950's. I just added the vintage style red ruby knobs which makes it look so awesome!
I love EVERYTHING about my kitchen, it is really a nice size...now my hubby is going to add black and white checkered floors to give it even more a 50's look.

sooo...what do you think? or should I take out the pitchers?
I really want your opinion....
I did it color coordinated thats why I kept some of the pitchers there OR should I just do all Pyrex and display some Pyrex ads up there?

I am still playing with it, sooo let me know, your opinion matters to me! =)

I have an idea....and it has to do with pyrex!

I have some nice idea, right now on above my kitchen cabinets are my collection of vintage pitchers. For some reason I am attracted to their graphics and some of the shapes..but I have to admit I am a little bored of it right now.

So I was searching this new site called FlickRiver and searched Pyrex Displays and some neat things popped up....

Does anyone have this display in their kitchen like this?

I was telling my friend last night on the phone that I wanted to do this and she said "The Pyrex is invading!!" Haha, that was very funny! It sure is =) and I do not mind it!

I will take before and after pictures, I will start on this now and see what happens!...
I still have some Pyrex ads that I am wanting to frame, so maybe this weekend I will frame some and display them with the Pyrex! New idea!

Stay tuned...

Christmas shopping tomorrow.

Well, "normal" non addicted people go Christmas shopping you know in the shopping malls, Best Buy, Toys R Us etc...."antiques addicted" people go Christmas shopping in antique centers, thrift stores etc! I am one of these people, and happy about it =)

I do not know many people that go antique shopping as Christmas shopping. I LOVE antiques and I am on the hunt to find my husband something great. I do have a bid on an AWESOME Christmas present for him, I am determined to win!

So tomorrow, my mom and myself are meeting up with a good friend who loves antique shopping.
We will have a nice early breakfast together and then head out to hunt for some nice Christmas presents.

Hopefully, I will also buy myself a nice Pyrex present. I will be on the lookout!

Wish me luck.

Has anyone else gone Christmas shopping at antique stores, thrift stores etc?

(I hope I am not the only person who does this! =)

My early Christmas presents from my mom.

I have more finds to show all of you. These are an early Christmas present from my mom.
She asked me what I wanted for Christmas, and of course I said Pyrex! Who wouldn't?!
This Sunday we went to NJ for a change since we always go to CT. We went to an antique flea market but it was raining outside and in the winter time this flea market is dull, nothing like the summer where it is hard to find a parking spot!
I saw a 1 1/2 Qt. Snowflake casserole and asked the older man who was selling it how much is it and he said $20 he said "I bought it that way and im selling it that way". and I put it down and walked away, don't care for his attitude nor his price.

We left the flea market empty handed and went to an antique center in NJ. We have been there before and although at the time I did not have an obsession with Pyrex, I would not know what I would find since I am addicted to Pyrex.

My mom bought me this Horizon Blue 2 1/2 Qt casserole.
It is in MINT condition!
Looks like it has never been touched just admired =)

It was priced at $22 and with the discount we got it for $19!

Then we went to an antique store right down the street from the one we just went to and I hit the mother load there!

This is my first piece in this pattern, the Pink Gooseberry.
It is the 1.5 Qt mixing bowl
Got it for $8.

Found this awesome Promotional item. It is called "Vintage" but everyone knows it as (Grapes).
I found it in perfect condition with the lid and the plastic under plate for $22 and got it for $15!

I did find this 1.5 Qt white on turquoise Snowflake casserole at this antique store!
It is the same one I saw at the flea market for $20.
My mom got it for $15.

My mom also bought me this retro pink oval casserole dish with a neat lid from Glasbake.
She got it for $10 bucks.

This last piece I ALMOST told the women to put it back because as she was wrapping it I noticed that it was a divided dish! I did not know that when I picked it up with excitement!
It has a clear glass lid (not divided) with a gold design on it, and the bottom dish is divided so it didn't make sense to me. but for some reason I held my breath and bought it anyway!
Thank goodness I did!
This is a promotional item.

This is from 1961. This pattern is called "Royal".
My question is, why would they put a glass lid on a divided dish, usually they make the lid divided also.?

That is all for now, Happy Pyrexing!

Have you noticed....

Have you noticed at your local thrifts or even the ones you might travel to have a lot of re sellers and dealers there?

Does this seem to annoy anyone because it really does annoy me. Now, I know people are making a living out of it, but really to be waiting at the front door of the thrift store I go to and then when the doors open they run to get a cart and run to get everything off the aisles before anyone else is obscured. All I hear the dealers say is "Oh I can resell this for big bucks". or overhearing the employee talking to a dealer stating that a few weeks ago a women bought a painting for $5.00 and sold it on eBay for $500! and the dealer said "and this is why I come in here daily!".

Now, I sell on eBay, but not much and whatever I do, it is because I do not love it anymore and want someone else to appreciate it or I have multiple Pyrex that I do not need.
I appreciate all antiques whether it is Pyrex or vintage dresses or kitchenware stuff...I love it all.
And for me to hear these "dealers" just care about a buck and not the item at all is really offensive.

I love antiques so much that this bothers me! I know there is nothing I can do about it but have some passion for it and not what your going to get for it!

Have you noticed that at your thrift stores you shop at that these dealers sworm the carts when they come from the back of the warehouse and grab it all from you! I hate that.

I actually appreciate all of these things and I use them and treasure them unlike them.
Maybe this is why I have not found any Pyrex lately? I know that I met a women at one of the thrifts and she is a nice lady but she buys and sells Pyrex, Fire King etc.
I asked her do you even keep any of them? She said no, I have no use for them I have wonderful expensive new stuff I just resell them. I'm thinking to myself OKAY, but your reselling them on eBay and for double the amount.
Sometimes people are so greedy. It is a shame.

The antique business has boosted up and that's wonderful! Either in thrift stores or antique centers, I am happy people are taking an interest in vintage things, but for me it's great when you see a dealer actually have a passion for this stuff and love it so much!

This has been bothering me for sometime now and wanted to ask does anyone have issues at their thrift stores they go to? Or am I just a crazy person who just is so passionate about antiques?
